Generally carols “kalanta”, are folk greeting songs and according to the custom are sung on the eve of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany. They are sung mainly by small groups of children, accompanied by musical instruments. Commonly with the classical iron triangle but according to the place where people listen to them and the characteristics of this music (violin, accordion, drum, flute, lute, etc.). The carols in mainland Greece are heavier while on the islands more melodic and cheerful.
